What is an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in Malta?

An EPC rates a property's energy performance and is legally required when a dwelling in Malta is sold or rented. It is produced by a registered assessor using the national EPRDM calculation procedure and covers the building fabric, apertures and services. GENCO issues EPCs for domestic properties.

When is a Pre-Demolition Audit required in Malta?

A Pre-Demolition Audit is required under S.L. 549.161 and carried out to SM 810:2022 before qualifying demolition or major refurbishment works. It identifies and quantifies the waste streams arising from the works so that materials can be separated and recovered. It must be prepared by an assessor registered with the Environment and Resources Authority.

What does a warranted mechanical engineer sign off on?

A warranted mechanical engineer can certify mechanical installations where Maltese law or a permit condition requires a warranted signature. This includes pressure vessels, machinery safety, mechanical systems, compressed air systems, HVAC installations and scaffolding. GENCO is led by Ing. Nathan Gatt, Warrant No. 2140.
